A relic is an object surviving from an earlier time, especially one of historical interest. It played great role in pilgrimages. Pilgrimage became a way to come closer to God for the Christians. However, pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Jerusalem in the 12th century was out of the question because of the expense, to the Middle East, it was too far, too expensive, and too dangerous as well. For this, people went to Santiago de Compostela in Spain for pilgrimage which was a more convenient option.
